“You actually looked that up?” Mason chuckled softly. “That was just something the colleagues at our firm put together, might be a bit exaggerated.”
Even so, the parts about academic papers and university degrees were all true.
Mason was really outstanding.
She said with a smile, “Well, it still means you’ve been qualified. If not, just work hard to learn those skills.”
Mason laughed too, “Alright, I’ll try”
He paused, then continued, “I saw that you deactivated the ‘Celestial Haze’ account.”
Celeste thought he was worried about having insufficient evidence during the lawsuit and said, “I saved all the screenshots.”
“That’s not what I meant, Mason said with a tight-lipped smile, “Actually, there are other ways to clear up those rumors without having to quit social media.”
“Like suing her?” Celeste laughed, “She didn’t name names, and even if I did sue her, she could just deny it. If I was still online, they’d say I was lying no matter what I posted, and that it’s my bad luck. As a lawyer, you should know this better than me.”
Mason didn’t respond.
His so-called ‘solution was really just a matter of letting time pass and allowing the issue to fade.
Legally speaking, they could issue a lawyer’s letter. The netizens were just venting, and it would eventually die down.
But that wasn’t a real clarification. Once the rumors took root in people’s hearts, they would be hard to eradicate. No one would keep track of this matter forever.
Although logging out of the internet would hurt, it was Celeste’s most effective and direct counterattack.
Like Trisha, Mason felt a sense of pity for the deactivated account.
Celeste was more optimistic: “Even though the account is gone, I’ll still continue to sue those who should be sued. So, I’ll still need your help.”
Mason relaxed a bit: “Actually, I was planning to contact you in the next few days. The application I submitted to the platform has been answered. Here is the identity information for the main members, take a look.”
He opened his phone, scrolling through several screenshots for Celeste to see.
Celeste frowned as she glanced at them, and her expression worsened as she went through the rest. Even after seeing all the screenshots, her furrowed brow remained tense and unrelaxed.
With a sigh, Mason said, “I figured this might happen when I was doing the investigation.”
“Underaged?” Celeste couldn’t believe it.
Among the haters who insulted her in the past, the oldest was 21 years old, and the youngest was just 14.
Out of the nine main members, five were underaged.
“Does this mean I can’t sue anymore?”
“It’s not that you can’t, but it’s hard to convict them. Even if the lawsuit is successful, all they’ll have to do is write an apology and have their guardian pay some compensation”
If the defendant was a minor, the situation would become complicated, as the law was more lenient on them.
They attacked strangers with nasty comments online, even causing some to have mental breakdowns and develop depression. Yet these same attackers could avoid more severe consequences just because they were underage. That was so unfair!
Celeste felt suffocated.
