Chapter 223
Celeste was puzzled, “What do you mean fire? Mom, what are you talking about?”
“Liam fired Martha. She came to me crying early in the morning. What did Martha do wrong that made you want to fire her?”
Liam fired the nanny?
Celeste frowned, “Mom, I was at the hospital taking care of my mom last night. I don’t know what happened at home.
“You don’t know? It’s because of you that Liam vented his anger on Martha! Liam got hurt, and yet you went to the hospital to take care of your mother. Do you even know who’s providing the money you’re spending!”
Celeste’s face went pale, “So you’re saying that after you get married, you shouldn’t care about your own parents anymore?”
This was the first time Celeste talked back like this. When Skyler realized, she became furious, “How dare you talk to me like that? You’re so disrespectful!”
“Mom, if I can’t even take care of my own mother, how would you think I’d treat you when you get old?” Before Skyler could lash out, Celeste continued, “Besides, your son has always been fair. He must have fired Martha because she did something intolerable. You should talk to Liam. Maybe he would reconsider for your sake”
With that, she hung up.
On the other side, Skyler’s face turned white.
Martha cried, “Sir must be firing me because of the contraceptive issue. He and his wife had a quarrel about it. Last time when Celeste didn’t take the medicine on time, after I told you, she warned me that if it happens again, I’ll be fired. I thought she was joking, but…
She started crying again.
She didn’t care whether Liam fired her for Celeste’s sake. As long as Skyler believed it, it was enough.
That way, she could prove that she was acting on Skyler’s behalf and got implicated. Naturally, Skyler would help her.
Skyler clenched her fists, her face darkening. Martha was working for her. Celeste unexpectedly allowed Liam to fire her worker, clearly disregarding her. Thinking of how Sienna treated Celeste, Skyler’s fists tightened even more.
“Skyler, I can’t lose this job. My husband is still looking for work, and the whole family relies on my income. If I lose my job, what will happen to us? I’ve always followed your instructions and never been negligent. Sir suddenly wants to fire me, it’s like cutting off my livelihood.”
Skyler’s head ached from her complaints, and she pursed her lips, “Don’t worry, I know you’ve worked here for many years, and I’m well aware of your situation. I’ll make sure this gets resolved.”
Celeste hung up the phone and the more she thought about it, the weirder it seemed that Liam would fire Martha.
Even though Martha could be somewhat sly and was appointed by Skyler, she was exceptionally competent at her work. Liam was notably selective, making it difficult for him to find a nanny that met his standards. The local gossip held that prior to his marriage, Martha had been the one managing his day-to-day life. Despite her long tenure in the household, Liam dismissed her without a second thought.
Celeste couldn’t figure out what was up, and was hesitant about whether or not to call Liam, when Shawn’s call came in.
Celeste was a bit taken aback.
