Chapter 186
After Celeste finished speaking, she kept an eye on Liam’s reaction.
But he didn’t seem to have any change of expression. He just said “Oh, and asked, “Why?”
Did Liam really not know about this?
Celeste was doubtful and continued, “Someone dug up some old comments she made online years ago, saying her stance was problematic, and then she got boycotted, and her works were taken off the shelves.”
Liam didn’t say anything.
Celeste added, “She must have pissed off someone, or stepped on someone’s toes. Otherwise, who would go out of their way to dig up something from over a decade ago?”
Liam replied indifferently. “If she didn’t have any dirt to be dug up, nobody could have caught her.”
“I heard she was supposed to take on a new drama role, but someone else had their eyes on it, which led to this whole mess. Can you believe they’d boycott someone just for a role – isn’t that a bit too ruthless?”
“Business competition is always like this. It’s her fault for giving people an opening.”
Liam pointed to the left and said indifferently, “Harder.”
Douchebag Liam wasn’t continuing the conversation, so Celeste decided to get straight to the point
“By that logic, Sydney Denton must be using these kinds of tactics all the time to get all her good resources.”
Liam paused and frowned, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing, just casual chitchat Sydney was in the news before because of the voice acting replacement for Legend. It seems similar to this situation.”
“How is it similar?” Liam said, displeased. “Who has been utterly ruthless toward that female voice actress?”
Celeste immediately fired back with what he’d just said, “That’s because she didn’t have any dirt on her, so they couldn’t find any leverage even if they
wanted to.
“How do you know she didn’t accept a bribe and quit on her own?”
“I didn’t…I hadn’t heard that she took money.”
Celeste almost let slip the truth.
Accept a bribe? As if!
She took pains for the audition, and was about to sign the contract when they told her she would be replaced. Compensation? She even had to pay for her trips to the audition!
Liam said coldly. “Why would she let you know if she’s taken money?”
Celeste was annoyed, “She wouldn’t have posted those things online if she’d been bought off! She’s not crazy!”
Liam replied without much thought, “Couldn’t it be for publicity? Isn’t that what people in show biz love the most?”
Celeste almost wanted to curse.
Liam, this asshole, didn’t realize he was in the wrong. To him, using money to snatch jobs from others was too commonplace.
Suddenly, Celeste felt there’s no point for her to test him like this. Even if Liam didn’t do it this time, it wouldn’t stop him from doing it for Sydney in the future to smooth her path.
If one day. Sydney’s desires clashed with her own interests, would Liam hesitate to side with Sydney?
The answer was obvious no
The wife he didn’t love, versus the first love with whom he’d been forced to part in guilt? It would be an easy decision to make.
With these thoughts in mind, Celeste regained her composure. If she had previously bickered and quarreled with Sydney, it was because she wanted to occupy a place in Liam’s heart. Now, however, she simply wanted to stand her ground for herself
The day of the jewelry exhibition arrived swiftly
After her lunch break, Celeste began choosing her attire.
