Chapter 173
Celeste pursed her lips, leaned down, and asked, “What are you trying to do?”
Before she could finish speaking, Liam lowered his eyes and gently applied some ointment to the wound on her lower lip with his index finger.
She had bitten her lip last night to keep herself from losing consciousness.
The cold ointment mixed with Liam’s warm fingertip felt like it also carried his tenderness.
Remembering last night’s ordeal, she suddenly felt so wronged she wanted to cry.
“Your mouth is swollen like a sausage. Don’t you feel anything?”
Liam’s words successfully suppressed the feeling of injustice welling up inside Celeste.
She swatted his hand away and glared at him, “If you don’t like looking at me, then don’t!”
Tve seen you look much worse than this. I’m used to it by now.”
Celeste pursed her lips. Liam really should have injured his tongue instead!
There was a knock on the door, and Shawn entered with a basket of fruit.
Celeste stood up. “Dad, I thought you left.”
Shawn said gently, I was about to, but I saw some fresh fruit downstairs. I didn’t know what Liam likes, so I just bought some of everything. You can peel some fruit for Liam in a bit.”
Celeste nodded and took the basket from him.
Ironically, when she was a kid and sick, she wanted to eat cake, but her dad never bought her one even though there was a dessert shop right across from his office.
She hadn’t received the care she should have from her father, but Liam did.
“Liam, how do you feel now?”
Liam said indifferently. “It’s nothing serious. I can be discharged later.”
“Rest well at home, and if you want anything, ask Celeste to cook it for you.”
Celeste couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Why did her dad have to drag her into his attempts to please Liam?
Liam glanced at her and said, “OK.”
Shawn exchanged a few more pleasantries before getting up to leave.
“Celeste, come with me for a moment. I need to talk to you”
Celeste wondered what he wanted to say.
They left the hospital room, and Shawn strode towards the rooftop. Celeste hurried after him, asking. “What do you want to talk about?”
As they entered the rooftop, he finally stopped, turned to her with a dark expression, and asked, “Did you deliver the white truffle I asked you to give last
time?”
Celeste nodded, “Yes, I did.”
As soon as her words fell, Shawn suddenly slapped her hard across the face.
The slap was fast and vicious Celeste’s ears rang, and her face stung terribly
“Skyler never received anything! Who did you give it to?”
The thought of Kaylee’s humiliation made Shawn’s anger flare, “You think you’re so capable now that you can decide everything for yourself? You even have the confidence to liel Don’t forget who got you into the Reed family!
Celeste’s vision went kinda fuzzy for a sec, she brushed her messy hair behind her ears, and looked up, I am not lying”
“You still dare to say that!
Shawn raised his hand to slap her, but this time Celeste was prepared and grabbed his wrist, “Liam’s in the hospital room, you try to touch me again, see what happens!
Hearing this, Shawn really couldn’t move his hand anymore, he gritted his teeth and said, “You’ve gotten pretty tough, huh? Threatening your own father?”
