Chapter 1193
Celeste took a deep breath and slowly stepped in
She stood straight, partly because of nerves and partly because she wanted to appear as dignified as possible, afraid she might not meet the expectations of her elders
The private room was large, with four people sitting around a round table in the center.
At the head of the table were a kindly looking elderly couple, her grandparents, whom she had met on a video call before.
Next to her grandmother was Hiram, who was a bit on the plump side. He got a bit excited when he saw her
Sitting next to her grandfather was a middle–aged man. He looked somewhat familiar, handsome, around forty, with a very well–maintained physique. If he changed his hairstyle, she thought he would look almost the same age as Liam.
As soon as Celeste took off her mask, her grandfather exclaimed, “Good girl”
Her grandmother’s eyes welled up with tears She pulled her husband’s sleeve and said softly. “Don’t frighten the child”
Hiram stood up and pulled out the chair next to him, Celeste, come here, sit here”
Steven took her hand and introduced them to her, “These are your grandparents you met in the video call, this is Dad, and this is Uncle Sheldon Hann He came all the way to J City with your grandparents to see you. Your aunt couldn’t make it because she had a lecture in F City today We will arrange a meeting another time.”
Celeste nervously clenched her hand. Usually, she was quite eloquent, but now she was at a loss for words in front of this family full of expectations
Steven paused and put the gift box on the table, “Grandpa and Grandma, this is the gift Celeste prepared for you.”
The two elderly people were overjoyed. Her grandmother said, “Such a thoughtful child.”
Her grandfather said, “Good kids suffer when they’re young. Look how thin she is.”
Her grandmother immediately felt sad. “She must have been malnourished when she was young. I saw her childhood photos from Steven, she was still so short even in the fifth grade”
Celeste was speechless. She wasn’t tall in elementary school, but she wasn’t a midget either.
She only started to grow taller in junior high school.
Steven coughed and said, “Celeste wasn’t short as a child; she just grew taller now.”
Hiram said, “Children grow taller as they age; no one in our family is very short.”
Her grandfather said. “It’s the good genes of the Hann family. She looks like Macy. It would have been bad if she looked like you.”
Hiram whispered, “Her nose looks like mine, I have a high bridge.”
Sheldon Hann said, “She probably looks like me.”
Hiram frowned, “In what way do my children look like you? Stop flattering yourself.”
Her grandfather complained, “Without Macy marrying you, could you have given birth to such beautiful children?”
Celeste was dumbfounded as she watched the family start arguing about who she looked more like.
She looked at Steven in astonishment. He coughed and said calmly, “You’ll get used to it.”
She finally understood where she got her ability to argue from.
