“Don’t you remember me?”
His words struck like a lightning bolt.
Nicolas emotions shifted from initial surprise to current curiosity
A man, who bore a striking resemblance to Liam in demeanor and was exceptionally good–looking, actually knew Celeste.
Well, that was interesting.
He glanced at Liam, whose lips were slightly pursed. His expression was calm, but his eyes were quietly focused on Celeste.
His gaze was as sharp as a knife edge, making Celeste feel pressured. She didn’t even dare to look back.
Regardless of the turmoil she felt inside, Celeste maintained a calm exterior and said, “You look familiar. Sorry, my memory’s a bit crap. Can you give me a hint?”
Jarred remained silent
He scrutinized the woman in front of him.
She had changed a lot since high school
Her baby fat was gone, her jawline was more defined, her features more perfect, her contours more delicate. She looked nothing like the girl who wore a floral cotton–padded jacket and painted a big floral face on the school talent show stage back in the day.
The only thing that remained the same was her eyes, which were bright and kind, pure and clear, unforgettable.
But he knew what kind of mischief lay beneath those seemingly harmless eyes
Back then, she used these sparkling eyes to look at him, saying she would transform him into a cute little animal, but she pulled a mouse out of his hand.
Jarred stared at Celeste for a few seconds, chuckled to himself, then looked up and said, “If you don’t remember, let’s start over.”
He extended his hand and said. “Hello, I’m Jarred, a 2015 graduate from The High School of J City.”
Before Celeste could respond, her best friend Trisha chimed in, The High School of J City? Letti, isn’t that your school too? 2015? We graduated the same year!”
Celeste really wished Trisha would shut up
Didn’t she see that Liam’s face had changed? Trisha was surprisingly on point right now.
Celeste could only force herself to remain calm and continue, “Oh, so we’re schoolmates. Nice to meet you”
She extended her hand, barely touching his fingertips before quickly letting go, “I didn’t know our school had such distinguished alumni as yourself.”
Jarred lightly touched his fingertips, smiling slightly.
A nearby assistant whispered something in his ear. He nodded, then turned to Celeste and said, “Tll go say hi to Mr. Campbell. I’ll come find you later”
Celeste quickly said, “No need, you go do your thing”
Jarred didn’t seem to hear. He turned and walked towards the crowd with his assistant
Celeste breathed a sigh of relief, only to see Liam staring at her blankly
Her scalp tingled
Nicolas immediately asked, “Celeste, is Jarred your high school classmate?”
Celeste simply answered, “I guess so.”
“Guess?” Nicolas looked doubtful, Jarred is so handsome. How can you not remember him?”
As soon as Nicolas finished speaking, he felt Liam’s gaze intensify
Celeste said awkwardly, “Who had time to notice handsome guys in high school? I was too busy studying.”
