Chapter 1104
Celeste had decided not to say anything more and walked away. The woman tried to follow her, but the police stopped her. All hat could be heard were the woman’s sobbing and swearing.
Mason came over and draped his coat over her shoulders, saying softly, “Let’s go to the hospital.”
Celeste responded softly, her face very pale
The handkerchief on her wound was soaked with blood. The wound seemed to have stopped bleeding, but it was very painful
She leaned back in the passenger seat, closing her eyes out of exhaustion
Mason looked at her pale face and remained silent for a while before saying. Tm sorry, I should’ve stayed with you
Celeste opened her eyes. There was no blame in her eyes, only understanding. “It’s not your fault. You can’t predict the future. Also, if it wasn’t for you showing up in time, I might’ve been hurt worse. You’ve helped me a lot.”
She then said softly, “Don’t blame yourself for everything, it’ll only make you tired”
Mason swallowed hard, his fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly. After a while, he said, “I might feel better if you could
blame me once.”
Celeste chuckled and joked. “Then just keep feeling bad. If I blame you and you feel better, I might feel worse.”
Mason laughed lightly before saying seriously, “Don’t worry, this won’t just end here.”
Celeste didn’t pay much attention to it. She closed her eyes and deeply breathed, “Why would these fans sacrifice their future for their idols? The idols won’t take the blame for them if anything happens. What’s the point?”
Mason replied, “They’re young and have too much free time. If they had a family, they wouldn’t have time to do these pointless things on the internet.”
This was the first time Celeste had heard such an explanation. She couldn’t help but laugh. On second thought, it made a lot of
sense.
She joked, “You actually have a sense of humor.”
Just then, her phone rang
Liam Reed finally had time to text her back. He said, “Just buy the cheap one. The expensive one is a waste. Plus, I’m not worth it save your money for a bag for yourself.”
This guy was really good at imitating her.
Celeste replied with a laugh, “You’re quite self–aware”
Liam chuckled, “Get your stuff and go home early. Don’t hang around outside. There’s a problem at the lab, and I might be late
Halfway through her reply, Celeste heard he had work to do. She deleted what she’d typed and replied, “Got it. We’ll talk when I get home”
Liam wanted to reply, but Owen called him over, so he put away his phone and went back to his lab.
After dealing with her wound and assisting with the investigation, it was almost dark by the time Celeste was done.
Mason wanted to take her home, but Celeste said, “Just take me to the market. My car is still there.”
Worried, Mason said, “How can you drive like this? Tell me where you want to go, and I’ll take you there. I’ll have someone drive your car
“No need, it’s not that bad,” Celeste insisted, “I want to drive myself home.”
Finding his advice useless, Mason didn’t say anything more and drove her to the parking lot near the market
Just as Celeste was about to leave the car, Mason stopped her.
She turned around to see Mason getting out of the car, holding a jacket. He was about to drape it over her, but Celeste instinctively stepped back
Mason paused, then casually folded the jacket and handed it to her, “It’s going to get cold tonight, be sure to bundle up so you don’t catch a cold”
Celeste didn’t take it, “Are you out of your mind? There’s air conditioning in the car How would I freeze? You should hurry back, your family is waiting for you to do the grocery shopping, instead, you’ve been tailing me for so long.”
Mason removed the jacket, chuckled, and said, “You seem to be avoiding me.”
