Suppressing her anger, she put on a smile, “Who needs to tell me? That drama was a hit on all major platforms. I’m a fan of it too”
Someone chimed in, “It’s that Regal Ambitions, right? That drama is amazing, I re–watch it every year
“That drama has been airing for four years now, and they say the annual copyright lee still earns tens of millions, it’s really popular.”
Sydney smirked, her eyes full of pride.
Such an achievement would make anyone proud.
At this point, a female actress who had finished her makeup also came over and continued the conversation, I remember this drama was Cindy’s breakout role and her first nomination for best actress. Before that, everyone thought she could only do small budget dramas, but it turns out she’s great at serious dramas too
If the competition hadn’t been so fierce that year, she would’ve won the best actress award long ago. But this drama indeed opened a wider market for her. While other actresses who debuted with her are still doing low budget dramas, she’s a familiar face in serious dramas. As soon as her drama airs, my parents tune in every night.”
Sydney’s expression stiffened a bit.
That phrase “other actresses who debuted with her are still doing low budget dramas” made her feel like it was directed at her.
She glared at the actress, but the latter was completely oblivious to her gaze and was still chatting enthusiastically with others.
“My grandma too! She doesn’t know any of the young actors, but as soon as I mention Cindy, she knows right away. The peanut oil that Cindy endorses, my grandma stocked up on five barrels! The character Cindy plays in the drama is so influential, my grandma always feels she’s not doing well in real life and wants to contribute to her income it’s crazy…”
“The male lead is also amazing, now he’s focusing on movies.”
“It’s not just the male lead who’s good, this drama was a huge hit back then, and all the actors are now big shots in senous dramas. The director and scriptwriter are amazing, the whole drama was a hit.”
Sydney went from feeling smug to not wanting to participate in the conversation at all.
Though she didn’t want to bring it up. Celeste had other plans. Since the topic was raised, how could the protagonist not participate?
So, she followed up with, “Do you have any other serious dramas? I thought you only had that one, I couldn’t find any others when I searched. Did google forget to update?”
Everyone froze, exchanging glances
Sydney’s got two dramas under her belt, one’s Regal Ambitions and the other’s Whispers of the Roses.
In the former, she wasn’t the star of the show and with the director’s guidance, plus the novelty of being new to the scene, she didn’t do too bad. In fact, you could say that was her acting peak.
But in Whispers of the Roses, without the backup of other big–name actors, her acting chops just couldn’t carry the role. And by the time she was filming this drama, Sydney was hot stuff, so no one on set dared to cross her
If she wasn’t happy with something, she’d demand the scriptwriter to make on–the–spot changes to the script, or if she wasn’t pleased with the set, she’d demand a do–over. What was supposed to be a serious spy drama ended up being over the top.
Once the drama aired, it was hit with a ton of criticism, with the scriptwriter taking the biggest beating.
And most of the folks throwing shade at the scriptwriter were Sydney’s fans
