“Sir, we really can’t let you go up there, it’s too dangerous,” the captain of the search and rescue team insisted.
Worrying about Jane’s safety, and with people blocking his way, Drake’s anger intensified.
Just as it was about to erupt, the middle-aged man who had come with Jane quickly caught up with him.
“Mr Warner…”
Drake turned around and recognized the person who suddenly appeared as someone trusted by his mother, Courtney. He immediately inquired about Jane’s situation.
The man truthfully explained that Jane had come here at Mrs Philips’ arrangement to buy some wild ginseng and got lost in the mountains because she wanted to take a look around. Moreover, she had been missing for two whole days. Drake’s face became even darker upon hearing this.
Two days were enough time for many things to happen.
Feeling the chilling aura emanating from Drake, the man realized he couldn’t stop him from going up the mountain to find Jane. He quickly offered a solution.
“Sir, I’ve gathered some young villagers who frequently go up the mountain. They’ve agreed to accompany you in the search, and I’ve brought the best equipment from the city to facilitate your journey.”
Hearing the arrangements, Drake’s face eased slightly, but he still didn’t hesitate to rush up the mountain with the assembled villagers.
As time passed, the sky gradually darkened. Inside a cave, Jane anxiously looked at the darkening sky outside as the snowfall became heavier. She had lost her way and couldn’t find an exit. After wandering around, she accidentally tumbled down a slope. Fortunately, it wasn’t too long, and the ground was covered with snow, so she didn’t get hurt. But the slope was too steep, and with the snow falling, it was impossible for her to climb back up.
Jane could only wait for rescue while searching for another way out. Luckily, her experiences during the years abroad, where she had a senior brother who liked mountain climbing and camping, had taught her many survival skills in the wilderness. As a result, Jane remained calm and composed in her current situation.
Seeing the sky getting darker, Jane could only wait for the next day to continue searching for an exit. Suddenly, another wave of snow fell outside the cave
Jane looked through the cave entrance and saw another pile of snow sliding down the slope where she had rolled from earlier. Among the snow, there was a black dot.

Jane’s gaze focused on the black figure rolling down with the snow. After carefully observing for a few moments, she finally confirmed that she wasn’t mistaken-it was indeed a person.

Drake stood up gracefully from the pile of snow, feeling a gaze on him. He followed the line of sight and saw Jane standing in the snow, wearing a apricot-colored down jacket.
The jacket’s hood had a pink rim of rabbit fur, covering her entire small face, and her cheeks had turned slightly red from the cold. Even her eyelashes had sno wflake s on them.
Without any hesitation, Drake immediately ran over to her.
Before Jane could react, he swiftly pulled her into his arms. “I finally found you!”
Hearing the excitement and joy in Drake’s voice for regaining something precious, Jane’s heart was filled with mixed feelings.
She had thought that she meant nothing to Drake, but from his emotions displayed at this moment, it
seemed otherwise.
She couldn’t help but feel more and more perplexed about him.
“Why did you come?” Contrasting Drake’s excitement, Jane’s expression remained normal.
“I came to find you,” Drake answered and released his hold on her. Looking at her face again, he was once again sure that he hadn’t been mistaken. The person in front of him was indeed Jane.

“Not really, there were other people with me, villagers from down the mountain, but I got separated from them,” Drake explained. Upon hearing his words, Jane couldn’t help but laugh.
“What are you laughing at?” Drake didn’t understand why Jane was still able to laugh at a time like this and asked.
Jane stopped laughing and looked at him calmly. “I got separated from the villagers as well. Before, I thought I was just too clumsy and couldn’t keep up with them. But now, it seems the problem might not be with me.”
Upon hearing her words, Drake’s expression changed subtly, and he responded, “You’re still able to think about these things in a situation like this?”
“What else could I do? Cry and whine, sigh and wait to die right here?” Jane replied with a rhetorical question. “If this had happened in the past, maybe I would have been completely lost and panicked. But after my experiences abroad, I’ve learned to stay calm and face any situation with composure.”
Listening to Jane’s words, Drake’s eyebrows twitched slightly. She indeed continued to surprise him with her newfound strength and resilience.
“How much more about you do I still not know?” he asked curiously calmly, curious about what Jane –had experienced during all those years to become so… independent.
“Maybe it’s not just you not knowing me well, because honestly, I find it hard to understand you too, Drake. Why did you come looking for me? Aren’t we already divorced? Shouldn’t you be with the one you deeply care for, your beloved Annie?”
Jane’s words turned cold and indifferent, her deep eyes locked onto Drake as she awaited his response.
“Because, in my heart, you are more important than anyone else,” Drake answered.

Upon hearing this, conflicting emotions surged within Jane. “Drake, don’t you find it ironic to say that? You claim I’m more important than anyone else, yet when you had to make a choice, you chose her.”
“I didn’t choose her, I did that out of fear for the enemies lurking in the shadows, afraid that you might be affected because of me,” Drake finally confessed
“Hidden enemies? You didn’t even fear Simon Reed, so what kind of enemy could be so terrifying that you had to push me away” Jane didn’t completely believe this explanation
“They are different from Simon Reed. These are the people who caused Annie’s accident when I underwent surgery to regain my sight after I went blind. They wanted to destroy my chances of seeing again. They are a formidable and dreadful force. While I was in the military, I was on a mission to eliminate them, and even though the mission was completed. I later found out that we only destroyed one of their main bases.”
