Eighty–Two
Alexander’s POV
I kept telling myself that Isabella was suffering a lot more than I thought right now. I had to keep reminding myself of that fact as I held her and told her everything would be alright even though I was quite conflicted.
I believed Isabella when she said that the bastard, whoever he was, had been the one to attempt something with her and when she told him off and her best friend slapped him, he had begun to spread the disgusting rumors that had set off the gossip mill.
The problem was how to stop the rumor and not just by using my authority but by making sure they actually believed the truth that the Luna was innocent and they were all wrong for speaking about her the way they did. I needed to give Isabella back the respect she deserved.
I had not gone to see my parents since I found out about this rumor and I was surprised that they hadn’t still called me to their suite concerning the matter.
Nevertheless, I had decided to go and see them today, hopefully, they were not disappointed by the lies enough to actually detest my mate.
1.knew that there were a lot of things weighing on my mate’s mind. I could feel it through the bond. Which was why I was glad when she finally fell asleep after tossing and turning multiple times. I didn’t want her to know that I knew that she

was still awake since I didn’t want her to feel bad for keeping me up. I had stayed quiet and kept my breath as even as possible while turning around to pull her into my arms and holding her tight until she finally calmed down and her breathing evened as she fell asleep.
I was awake before her this morning and when I removed myself from her grasp before replacing my torso with a pillow, I had to stifle a laugh when she immediately squeezed the life out of the soft object as she cuddled it.
Although I didn’t want to wake her up, I couldn’t help placing a peck on her forehead before going to take a shower and then getting dressed to go and see my parents.
Neither of them was smiling when I got there and my heart instantly dropped to my stomach. I had hoped that my mom would at least spare me a small smile.
“You are Alpha now, so I decided it’s about time I stopped summoning you like you are still a child but as an adult, I hoped you will come and explain what this news that is flying around is exactly.” My father spoke after a long silence where I sat on the couch adjacent to him and my mom’s and we all just stared at each other.
I cleared my throat, “Thank you Father for realizing that. I’m here to tell you, guys, what actually happened,” My mother perked up then and my father raised his brow.
+ raised my own brow, “Good to see that you’re both surprised to hear that I might be about to tell you that my mate is not actually a whore.”
My mom’s face fell, “Alexander!” She complained but I turned away from her.

“I was there that night too as well. I hope you know that. Isabella’s best friend, Chloe, was there. Blake, Mason, and Caleb were there as well. We all wanted to have a night out and one bastard dared to…” I trailed off as my jaw tightened. “Dared to grind himself against my mate. She pushed him away, of course, and her best friend even slapped him. A couple of minutes later, this awful rumor started in the club and I thought it had ended that night as well but here we are.”
“Is that what happened?” My father asked after a while.
“It is indeed,” I said, looking at him directly, my eyes hard. “Do you think I’m lying? Do you trust a rumor you don’t even know who started over me, your son?”
“Alexander!” My mom said, “Calm yourself.” She pleaded.
“It’s hard to stay calm when the pack I’m meant to lead is filled with nothing but gossip mongers who don’t have even the slightest bit of respect for my own mate, their Luna, and by extension me, their Alpha.”
“This is quite frustrating.” My father breathed. “What do you plan to do about this, Alexander?”
“Apart from finding whoever started this and tearing him to pieces and punishing whoever I find talking about it, my anger right now won’t let me think of anything much more rational.”
“That’s understandable.” My mom murmured. “This entire thing makes me wonder if a Luna doesn’t hold the slightest bit of respect in this pack.”
My father reached over to take her hand, “They respected you, darling.” He assured her before turning back to

Alexander. “Why didn’t your mate stand up for herself right there in the club? They probably took her silence for guilt. The whole issue probably wouldn’t have escalated this far if she had shut them up immediately. I don’t like this at all.”
I sighed. I knew he was right. I had asked her this as well. “I think she was just in shock. She appeared quite frozen when I got to her.”
My mom seemed to be about to say something when the door was suddenly opened by the guard outside only for the person I least expected to walk in.
I managed to drag my eyes away from my mate’s anxiety- stricken face to my parents with a very pissed–off glare. She was obviously not comfortable and I could only imagine how much she had panicked on the way here. I could even hear her heartbeat from where I stood and it wasn’t calm in the slightest.
“What is this about?” I demanded.
“We were talking about a matter that involves her, what’s wrong with her being here?” My father countered simply and my eyes narrowed even further.
“That is not the answer to my question and you know it.” I all but growled trying to tame my anger as much as I could.
Crossing the distance between where I stood and my mate, I took her hand in mine and pulled her with me as I went to open the door. “We’re leaving,” I said slowly as I pulled open the door but Isabella pulled me back.
“We’ll talk about it outside,” I told her not looking back but she tugged on my hand even harder until I was forced to look

back.
“Let’s not leave like this.” She whispered, giving me a forced smile that I believed was meant to reassure me.
“Isabella,” I whispered but she just shook her head and she pulled me back to where I had been sitting before bowing before my parents while they gestured for her to take a seat.
I sat as well turning to Isabella with a frown to make sure she could tell that I was not at all happy with this.
“I don’t want it to seem like I am hiding and you are protecting me. It’d make me seem even more guilty when I’m not at all.” She told me in a mindlink and I hated how right she was in that moment. “Don’t be angry with them. I’m sure they mean no harm.”
“Then why do you look so tense?” I mumbled a retort which she definitely heard and definitely did not reply. Her face had turned to face my parents as she patiently and very nervously waited for them to speak.
“How are you?” My mother finally spoke and although she did not smile and her voice was lacking most of its usual warmth, I was grateful that those were the first words she said to Isabella.
Isabella hadn’t been expecting the question either because her eyes widened ever so slightly before she sucked her lips in briefly to wet them as I had seen her do a lot of times when she was about to speak, “I’m fine Luna, thank you.”
“That sounds very automated, dear. It wasn’t just a greeting. I‘ m asking you, how are you?”

I watched Isabella as she faltered and glanced at my mother briefly but she didn’t look at me. Her eyes were trained on Isabella. “I–I’m feeling a lot of things. I hardly know where to begin.” I took Isabella’s hand in mine and squeezed it
comfortingly while using my eyes to tell my mother not to probe.
In case she no longer understood the language of my eyes though, my father cleared his throat right then, intentionally or unintentionally helping me out.
“We’re going to have to bring the ceremony forward. You never told me what date you ended up fixing the Luna
coronation if you even did at all but nevertheless, we’re going to have to move it up.”
