Alexander’s POV
At this point, everyone around me must know how much I pace when I’m anxious. In fact, I could set a world record for the longest hours spent pacing while you worried yourself
away.
Not bearing to have her carried anywhere else, I carried her up to my room myself and sent for the pack doctor. I had been in the room a couple of minutes before the doctor had kicked me out on the basis of my pacing and the amount of questions I was asking, distracting her and making her uncomfortable.
I was about to argue until she mentioned that last part. If it was going to be hard to help Isabella because of my treatment then I’d rather swallow my need to see her and let the person who could help her do her job and so I left.
The fact that it took Blake repeating it to me very slowly like he was talking to a child to make me realize that showed just how far I’d gone past reasoning.
The corridor just outside my room was silent except for the sound of my slippers hitting the ground as I walked from one point to another.
My fingers kept getting tangled in my hair as well and the number of times I had run through it would be enough to cause me and my future generation to go bald.

At the thought of a generation coming from me, I stilled, my heart clenching as it hit me once again that Isabella was pregnant. She was pregnant and from the look of things -I shook my head, I didn’t want to think about it.
Even though it was obvious that she had lost a ton of weight. Even though the pack doctor had discovered that she had been injected with a substance to prevent her from healing quickly as she should. Even though she had collapsed immediately after we got back and had been out for two hours now, I still wanted to believe that all that was not enough to make her lose her -no- our baby.
It would break her heart.
I sank to the ground, my back to the wall and my legs sprawled out in front of me. I felt Blake’s gaze fall on me as he shifted from one foot to another in his spot where he stood at an acute angle from me with his back against the wall.
I could tell he wanted to say something but was probably unsure whether to go ahead so I just ignored him, sinking my head low as I faced the ground. I stayed like that for what felt like hours and the only thing on my mind was that the time was ticking and the door was still closed, no one had come out with any news.
When the door handle finally twisted a lot later, I jumped to my feet and ran to stand right in front of it even before it could be pulled open and when it was, the doctor looked a bit startled when she saw me standing right in front of her.
Sighing, I took a step back and to the side so she could come out because while I was peering to see inside the room, she didn’t look like she was ready to let me go in just yet as she

quickly closed the door behind her.
“Is she okay? Has she woken up? Does she need anything? Blood? I can donate mine…if it’s a match. How…how is the baby?”
Blake who had come closer cocked his head while his eyes widened slightly while the doctor narrowed her eyes.
“She’s okay, Alpha. She just needs a bit more rest. She hasn’t woken up yet and no, she does not need blood or anything else right now. She would have to eat after she wakes up though, she has been severely malnourished and has visibly lost a lot of weight. And as for ‘the baby‘…I’m sorry Alpha but I do not know what you’re talking about.”
My head spun as I took a step backward to steady myself. I felt Blake’s gaze dart from me to the doctor and back again. I could literally hear the thousands of unspoken questions that were at the tip of his tongue waiting for the right moment to be asked. “What do you mean by that?” I asked the doctor.
She looked at me, confused, “Would you like us to speak privately?”
I narrowed my eyes, “What could you possibly…” I trailed off. Privately? It could only be bad news. Right?
I sighed, “Fine.” I said, my voice sounding defeated as I led the way to the living room.
“I’m confused that you would ask about a baby, Alpha. The Luna is not with a child.” The doctor said, going straight to the point immediately we were sat.
I swallowed the huge lump in my throat but felt tears prickle

my eyes nevertheless. “D-did she have a miscarriage?”
The doctor made a face, “Alpha.” She stressed gently, “I gave the Luna a full physical. She has never been with a child.”
I reeled backward in my seat, “What are you saying?” I practically wheezed out.
“I’m sorry you’re so shaken, Alpha but it seems like you thought she was pregnant when that wasn’t the case. You must have been very worried, I understand and to put you at ease, I would even check again but I am certain that she wasn‘ t pregnant. She fell unconscious due to the accumulated stress, fatigue, and hunger and I’m sensing a bit of shock. She will be awake soon though, so don’t worry too much.”
I simply nodded, ending the meeting. She excused herself with a bow to go back to Isabella while I remained on the couch. I stayed there while minutes passed by, doing nothing else but staring at the wall in front of me.
When I stood up it was to go to the kitchen cabinet where a few bottles of liquor stood. I put it on the counter as well as a glass before going back around to take a seat.
I slowly sipped on the strong liquid, wincing at the burn but at the same time grateful for the distraction. At this point, I doubted there would ever be a time I would take a drop of alcohol that I would not remember Isabella.
I had told myself that she must’ve found out about the pregnancy late when I thought of all the times she had drunk recklessly. Turns out she wasn’t pregnant at all after all.
I heard the door open and didn’t have to turn to know that it was Blake. He pulled out the chair beside me and took a seat.

“You’re drinking.” He said matter–of–factly. I glanced at him
briefly,
“That I am.”
He sighed, “What was all that about? Are you okay?”
“Just wondering why Isabella would lie about being pregnant,” I said, turning to him just in time to see his baffled expression. “I’m just telling you, Blake. I guess I should’ve kept it to myself but it just came out I guess.”
“You needed to get it off your chest. You can trust me to not tell anyone.”
“But why?”
“I don’t know, man.” He whispered and I downed the rest of the drink.
I was a zombie for the rest of the day. I distracted myself with cooking and when she had still not woken up, I packed it up and put it in the fridge before going to check on my dad.
My mom enveloped me in a large hug once I got in that was so homely, she almost had me sobbing on her shoulder. My dad was sitting up in bed while Mason came out of the kitchen.
“You’re still here…”
“You asked me to.” He said simply, “How is she?” He asked with sincere concern.
“She’s still out but the doctor is certain that she will wake soon,” I said, positive that news on how she passed out on arrival had already spread. “Thanks, Mason,” I said, referring

to him being there for my father.

He shook his head with a small chuckle, “That’s unnecessary
bro.”
I nodded, while my mom began to pepper me with questions, laying down all her worries while I tried my best to answer every question and assure her as best as I could where assurance was required. I couldn’t spend much time there, though, as my mind was constantly darting back to the woman sleeping in my bed. My mate. Isabella.
When I got back there, I was half disappointed and half relieved when I saw that she was still out. My relief was solely due to the fact that guilt would have eaten me from the inside out if she had woken up to an empty room.
My gaze darted to the windows and worry began to build in me when I saw that the sun had begun to set. The doctor said she would wake soon.
Why has- I jumped out of my chair as I saw the slightest flutter in her eyelids and when they fluttered open and she tried to sit up, I thanked the goddess for bringing me back to my senses soon enough for me to remember to go assist her.
