Alexander’s POV
“Werewolves don’t get sick.” I said to the pack doctor, “Injuries can occur and we may get weak with age but an illness?”
“Females could get sick with pregnancy as well.” She said patiently.
“But my father is not a female and neither is he pregnant!” I hissed, massaging my temples as I glared at her, hating how one statement pulled my mind towards my mate and our baby and how I had been restricted from going to find her yet again.
“Right. And I understand what you mean. I don’t know what this is about either but his heart is weak and his blood pressure is really low. I’ve never seen this before in a patient especially since from what I’m seeing, he’s prone to colds and has a high fever.”
“Could it have been induced?” I asked.
She remained silent for a brief second before nodding slowly, her head bowed. “It seems so, Alpha.”
I ran my fingers through my hair for the umpteenth time before looking at the doctor again as another question popped up in my mind, “How long will it take for him to heal?”
She bit her lip, “As this is not common in our kind and as it seems to have been induced by some sort of poison like you rightly assumed, I really can’t say. The stats don’t look too

promising though and even after we succeed in removing him from the danger zone, it may become something that he’d have to live with…with proper medical management of course.”
When I left the pack doctor and went back to my father, I found my mom there sitting on the bed and just watching him while he slept. Sighing, I went to her. Carefully placing my hands on my shoulders so I would not scare her I massaged her shoulders gently and she sighed, tilting her head to the side instinctively. Taking off my hands, I went to sit on the chair beside my father’s bed so that I was facing her.
“You’ve been up all night mom, he’s asleep now and I’m here. Please go to sleep now. You need to rest.”
She said nothing and only shook her head in defiance as she stared at her mate. It was heartbreaking to see him like this and I knew it. She knew I too, it was why I wished she would stop torturing herself so. I saw her bottom lip begin to quiver and sighed going to help her up whether she liked it or not.
“He’s not going to like you wearing yourself out because of him and you know it. Come on…for him.” I pressed and she finally got up and very reluctantly turned her eyes away from her mate and towards me. Moving closer, I wrapped my arms. around her for a tight hug, willing all the warmth and love in me to flow to her and willing her to feel it. Her hands slowly came up to pat my back and just like that it felt like she was the one hugging me and I was a child again.
“You have to go.” She whispered and my heart clenched.
“Not when he’s like this.”
She let go off me and looked at me. “You know this isn’t only a

matter of what would make you happy and alive, it’s a pack duty as well.”
“It’s me he wants. I don’t know why he has done this to father but I am certain that he would not hurt Isabella until I get there. As guilty as it makes me feel, he only took her to bait me.” My mom nodded silently and I know she was once again beating herself up about the fact that her other son was behind such wicked acts. “Hey, don’t let your mind wander.” I said as I led her into her own room. “Please mom.” I said and she nodded and I knew what a hard task I was asking of her. Even having to sleep in her own room was a reminder that something was wrong. In my parent’s case, the Alpha and Luna having separate rooms was only for the tradition. They hardly ever slept apart. It was either his room or hers together, all the time.
After I had finally gotten my mom to go to bed, I went back to sit with my dad, hoping she actually did. I know we could have easily had a nurse from the pack hospital sit with him and take care of him but there was no one I could trust right now. How could I look at a person and make sure that they had not been manipulated by my brother? My mom would be here for him with frequent check ups from the pack doctor and for now while it is all still fresh and intense, I will be here too. All I could hope for was that Isabella was fine until. Or at least that my men find her soon.
A knock sounded at the door and I knew it was Blake before I got up to go open it since I was the one that sent for him. We had settled our differences the day after they even came up and now it was as if it never happened. I’ve heard ladies talk about how they envy how guys are able to behave as though ‘nothing happened‘ after hours of just having a fight and while I’ve thought over it and decided that there with us or at

least with me and the guys I hang out with, there’s never been the need for unnecessary drama. We had the fight, we have calmed down and things can continue. The least we can do is joke about our grievances so the other gets it. It’s not as though we pretend like ‘everything is okay‘ because everything is truly okay after a while.
Depending on the situation of course.
In this case, even if Blake truly liked Isabella like I thought, I’m sure that he’s put it all behind him now that the fact that we are mates has come out. Blake has been my friend for forever and my brother where Antonio wasn’t. He would never
consciously hurt me and neither would I him.
“You called.” He said and I nodded.
“I was supposed to leave to find Isabella today but as you can see, I have to be here. I want you to go instead.”
“Alex-”
“I believe we are close. Go, please.”
Blake nodded solemnly before heading back to the door but before he could open it, he turned back to me. “This must all be a lot for you but just…hang in there.” He said to me and I nodded appreciatively, even mustering up a small smile that faded quickly.
“Thanks.” I said and he nodded before slipping out.
I went back into my fathers room to see that he had just awoken and was trying to sit up. Rushing up to help him, I adjusted the pillows behind his back while he grunted.

“I hate this.” He grumbled and my face broke into an amused smile.
“I can imagine.”
“I feel like I’ve aged twenty years in one night.” I said nothing and after drinking from the cup I handed to him, he looked at me, his eyes narrowed. “What are you still doing here anyway?”
I gave him an unimpressed look, “Really?”
“Really. I’m pretty sure there are tons of other people to help me out as you go looking for your Luna.”
“Dad, you didn’t just get sick. That’s not even possible. You were poisoned or something and this is definitely Antonio’s doing. I can’t leave you alone with people I can’t trust and mom would have to rest or else she’ll wear herself out but physically and emotionally.” I see his face drop at that and quickly move on from it. “I’ve sent Blake out and I’m sure Antonio wouldn’t hurt Isabella and is just trying to bait me. That doesn’t mean I don’t want her to be safe and back home as soon possible though. I just realize that for him to try to bring you down then the pack might be in deep danger as well and I’m just here trying to figure out what step to take so Isabella would be okay and the pack would be okay as well. I‘ m trying hard not to be selfish.”
My dad nodded solemnly and there’s a long silence before he speaks, “You guys playing together seems like too far a memory now.”
I scoffed. “That has to be when we were toddlers cause even as kids, even though we played he was always trying to pick a fight. Then imagine him blaming me for getting himself

kicked out of the pack. I still loved him though. I missed him and would have still done anything for him to come back if I could even though he put the pack in danger hoping he’d change. I don’t think anyone is surprised to see how bad an idea that would have been.
