Twenty–Eight
Isabella’s POV
All my senses were awake and I was aware of everything. I was aware of his fingers on my waist, I was aware of his body pressed against mine.
I was aware of his face just above mine, of the feel of his warm breath, of his lips barely a distance from mine, and the way his eyes were fixed on them. They flickered up briefly, landing on my eyes and I almost forgot to breathe at the look in his own eyes.
“Your eyes.” He spoke finally, his voice husky and deep, “They‘ re beautiful.”
My breath hitched, but before I could remove some of the cottons that seemed to have filled my brain in the seconds that passed, Alexander suddenly closed the distance, laying a peck on my lips before completely removing himself from my body and standing up. I lay there, completely dumbfounded and speechless while I heard him gather the plates I ate out of and leave the room with them.
I raised my finger to my lips, brushed the lower one gently, and shivered as I replayed the moment in my head. Just then, Alexander came back in and I sat up, placing my hands on the bed beside me and leaning slightly on them.
Alexander ran his fingers through his hair, “It has been recommended that you take a couple of days off work to catch up on the rest that you need.”

“Recommended by who?” I asked warily. The fact that he was acting indifferent like he didn’t just trap me under him before kissing me just now still stung quite a bit.
“The pack’s doctor.”
I raised my brow, “The pack’s doctor? Have my parents been here?”
He shook his head, “No. I decided it was no use worrying them when I knew you’d be fine. What they don’t know wouldn’t kill them.”
“Fair enough but is that the reason I’m guessing no one knows I’m here except for you and the doctor? What did you tell her to ensure she thinks nothing of this, huh?”
Alexander sighed, seemingly exasperated but I just shook my head, “Don’t worry, I’m not trying to fight you or anything. I’m just interested in how concerned you seem to have been. You could’ve just told everyone that I was hurt and my family would have taken me away to nurse me till I get better but you just couldn’t let me out of your sight, could you?” I smirked, not expecting him to look half as uncomfortable as he looked at the end of my accusation.
Then his jaw hardened and he looked away, “Get up, I’m taking you home.”
“Oops, have I pissed you off? Your bed is comfier than mine.” I mused, laying back down but before I could properly ease into the soft mattress, his hand wrapped around my wrist and pulled me up.
“It’s not about anything you just said. You’re all better now and there’s no reason for you to stay here much longer. I’m

certain that if you weren’t so keen on pissing me off right. now, you wouldn’t even be opposing.”
I pulled back my hand from his grip, “You’re right.” I said, rubbing my waist. He could be so unnecessary sometimes, I scowled. Did he have to grip my wrist that tight?
“I’m sorry about that.” He said and when I saw his eyes on my hand, I wondered if I had mistakenly said the words out loud before deciding that I hadn’t. I rolled my eyes still,
“Whatever but I’m sure I can get home by myself.”
“I’m not allowing you to drive and I’m also not going to let you take a taxi.”
“Well send someone, then. You usually don’t want to be in the same space as me if you can help it. Send Blake like you usually do.”
I saw something flash in his eyes but it disappeared before I could even try to decipher it, “Isabella, I said I am taking you home. If you have any problem with that, cry about it after I leave.” He said curtly and I glared at him before getting up, suddenly feeling like a clown in his clothes.
Maybe it was the silly peck but I was really acting out of character.
“Fine. Let’s go.” I said and he raised his brow before dropping his arms from their folded position on his chest.
“Let me go grab my keys.” He said and I just nodded, folding my arms as I waited for him. It didn’t take so long but when he came back he wasn’t just with his keys, he was wearing a different outfit as well.

I rolled my eyes and walked to the door but he beat me to it, placing his hand on the handle before looking back at me. “Follow me.”
It was almost amusing seeing Alexander go all Ninja, sneaking around the pack house with me right behind him just because he didn’t want us to be seen together. I followed him down. some isolated–looking stairs to the more familiar part of the pack house. I was assuming we just came down from the Alpha suite which I had never seen until today and we were going down some sort of emergency stairs.
I let out a relieved sigh when we finally got into the car park and hopped in as soon as he unlocked the car. I didn’t think my muscles were recuperated enough for all that sneaking around. And it was also terribly silly. I hope he knew that.
“You are not to come to work until the stipulated time runs out. You are not to tell anyone where you’ve been all this while. The attack was kept a secret from the rest of the pack. Your father is an elder though so just in case news got out somehow, tell them you’ve been in the pack hospital and you didn’t want to see anyone.” I raised my brow at that and he ran his fingers through his hair, “If you have any better ideas, go ahead and use them but no one should know that you’ve been with me the whole time.”
Maybe I should be offended but it was actually kinda amusing how keen he was to keep the fact that there was a connection between us a secret. I was also kinda wondering how long it would take till things blow over cause they had to eventually, right?
“It’s obvious you don’t like me, so wouldn’t it be way easier to just reject me and carry on with your life?” Lasked genuinely.

Alexander turned to me briefly before his face hardened and he turned back to his front, gripping the wheel tighter and stepping on the gas.
Realizing I wasn’t going to get an answer, I leaned back and held on for dear life and in the next couple of minutes, we pulled up in front of my building.
To my surprise, before I could open the door, Alexander was down and at my side, pulling open my door before stretching forth his hand for me to take. I was surprised but actually grateful because, for some reason, my legs were incredibly weak.
“You cracked a couple of bones,” Alexander explained as though he had somehow read my mind. I raised my brow, “We actually didn’t expect you to be on your feet and using your limbs this quick but that doesn’t mean you don’t still have to take things slow. This is exactly why I don’t want to see you near the pack house until you’re completely healed. Although we heal fast, these kinds of injuries take more time. I’m almost tempted to put people on you to ensure you don’t go disobeying my orders to stay at home.”
I glared at that and turned to go in while he went into his car and one honk later, I was turning back in confusion.
“What is it?”
“Your phone.” He said simply before opening the glove compartment and taking out the device before passing it to me. I collected it and placed it in my pocket. I made to go when he honked again. I huffed and turned back again, my displeasure evident on my face.
“What?”

“I also hired a maid for you so you don’t need to bother with the hard work. Be nice to her, okay? Because I’ve given her strict instructions not to let you even raise a finger so don’t bother trying.”
My eyes bulged open as I dug for words, my hands were still on the car and he honked again, startling me. I stepped back, finally finding my tongue but before I could say anything else, he was reversing the car and speeding away.
I yelled after him even when I knew it was no use, flipping off the air with my both middle fingers before turning back to face my building, rolling my eyes at the sight of a child staring at me while his mother gave me a disapproving look before pulling me away.
Wait a minute, was this maid in my apartment right now?
