Chapter 36 The Woman Who Answers The Call
Sue lowered her head to conceal her expression. After a while, she looked up and smiled, “You see, I want to shoot an advertisement for Supreme Jewelry. You can pass me some Jewelry knowledge to me.”
Isabelle bit her lips. Then she showed the drawing to Sue. “I only drew a half.”
“Oh, my! It’s gorgeous,” Sue looked carefully and praised.
The three of them chatted shortly before Sue stood up and excused herself. “I want to use the bathroom. Do you want to join me?”
Glenda immediately tossed the mask at her. “Go. Big star.”
Hearing it, Sue smiled bitterly. She lifted the curtain and walked out. At a casual glance, Isabelle seemed to see Tonya.
Isabelle immediately stood up and popped her head out, but there was not a soul in the hallway.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m probably tripping.” Isabelle shook her head. Splash Fun Club was their secret base. Tonya wouldn’t have known this place.
While thinking, Isabelle frowned slightly.
“What’s on your mind?” Glenda nudged Isabelle.
Isabelle pondered for a moment and said, “Glenda, something doesn’t feel right about Sue after she came back this time.”
“How so?”

Isabelle couldn’t tell the significant difference. Perhaps, it was just a feeling. “She didn’t seem to care about what happened to me. Besides, she looked agitated and brought up the Jewelry Contest for no reason.”
“You’re just paranoid. Isn’t every actor and actress dying to achieve success? She also said she was interested in jewelry because she wanted to shoot an advertisement for the SJ Group. Relax. We’re besties for years. We know you don’t want to get hurt after the Spencer family betrayed you. But at least, you can trust me and Sue.”
Glenda held Isabelle’s hand, laughing heartily. Isabelle felt at ease and thought it was stupid to suspect her best friend.
Sue walked out of the bathroom after fixing her makeup. About two minutes later, another woman emerged and strode in a different direction.
The three besties went to Glenda’s place. Isabelle left some files and books there.
Soon, Sue’s agent came to pick her up.
Isabelle stayed. She flipped through the books and edited her drawings.
At dusk, Isabelle thought Mr. L would soon get off work, and she felt sorry that Warren, her nemesis, took advantage of her today. Should she give Mr. L a call and tell him about this? Glenda asked firmly as though she could read Isabelle’s mind, “What? Do you miss your fake husband?”
“Call him. Tell him to take you home!”
Before Isabelle could say anything, Glenda snatched away her phone, found Mr. L’s number, and made the call.

Isabelle. Isabelle immediately blushed. She shot Glenda a stare and answered, “Hello, Mr. L?”
“Can I help you?” A woman’s voice came through. It was sweet and pleasant.
Isabelle froze. Glenda’s expression changed as she asked snappily, “Who are you? Give this phone back to its owner.”
“L is resting. Is there anything you want to tell him?” She sounded breezy as if she was warning Isabelle not to bother them.
Mr. L would ask his friends to call him “L“, so Isabelle figured that woman must be close to him.
That was also why she dared to pick up Mr. L’s phone call.
Suddenly, Isabelle recalled the woman she saw in Mr. L’s car that morning.
Her smile disappeared. She lowered her eyes and said quickly, “Nothing.”
Without hesitation, Isabelle hung up. The phone felt like a heavy brick in her hands. Isabelle was tired and dispirited. She wondered why Mr. L was resting in the afternoon.
The more she thought, the paler her face became. She had built walls around her heart and promised not to care about anything he did!
Yet, her heart was still aching. She couldn’t breathe. If he had a girlfriend, why would he deny it? Why would he lie? Why would he give her her favorite book, help her perfect the design, and flirt with her intentionally and unintentionally…
“Bella…it was probably his subordinate,” Glenda smiled.

“Do you believe it? Our marriage is a trade anyway. Everything he did is none of my business.” Isabelle bit her lips and pretended to be calm.
“I’ll have dinner with you. I still need to work on my design.”
“OK. I won’t have any problem even if you want to sleep over!” Glenda said caringly.
Isabelle stayed at Glenda’s place for the night. Mr. L didn’t call her. Isabelle reckoned he must scorn to explain.
The next day, Isabelle still stayed at Glenda’s place.
But Tara called. Isabelle didn’t want her to worry, so she grabbed her laptop and rushed back to the villa.
Tara rubbed Isabelle’s shoulder and asked, “Bella, did anything happen between you and my son?”
“No.” Isabelle played it cool and shook her head.
“Good to hear. When you didn’t come home last night, I was so worried. He’s busy these days. He can’t take care of you. Please don’t be
mad at him.”
Isabelle thought, “He must be busy taking care of other women.”
Suddenly, Tara chuckled, “Good girl. In fact, your husband wants you to bring something to him. After he deals with it, he’ll have time for you.”
Isabelle was in a muddle. “Bring what to where?”
“Here’s the address and the thing. Take them. The chauffeur will drive you there!” With that, Tara gave Isabelle a bag and urged her to get in the car.

Soon, the car arrived at a hotel. Before Isabelle could recover from shock, the servants led her into a suite. Isabelle realized something was
off.
The minute she looked back, the servants closed the door and said, “Mr. L told you to take a shower and get some rest first. The nightgown is in the bag.”
Isabelle was speechless.
So, he wanted her to deliver her nightgown?
Isabelle was confused. At 7 PM, Isabelle already felt tired because she stayed up sketching for the last two days. She went to take a shower. When she finished, she found there was no other nightgown to wear, except for the one in the bag. Isabelle quickly put it on. It seemed to have ears and a tail, but she was too exhausted to check and fell asleep on the bed.
At 8 PM, a string of heavy footsteps started reverberating in the hallway. Mr. L in a tailored tight suit walked demurely into the room.

He frowned when he saw Maggie. “Why is Ms. Spencer here?”
“She was looking for a quiet place to draw, so she came here. Hurry up and get in, sir,” Maggie smiled. “You haven’t eaten anything, right? Tara made some soup for you.”
The man stared at the bedroom door with arched eyebrows. Thinking about Isabelle, he gulped down the soup.
He opened the door and entered in big strides.
Inside, the lights were dim. The sweet fragrance permeated the air.
