Chapter 22 Look Into Ruthanne Forrest Again
The hair on the back of Ruthanne’s neck stood on end, and her limbs felt weak.
The new order from the mysterious person almost seemed like a joke. Ruthanne was confounded.
Do they think that love can be forced? That I can make him fall in love with me just because I want him to?

Ruthanne tightened her grip on the phone. “There’s no way Theodoric is going to fall for me. Even the marriage alone is more than enough reason for him to despise me.”
“Men like women who exhibit cute behaviors, and Theodoric is no exception.”
Cute behaviors? Are they asking me to act sweet around Theodoric? I… I can’t do that!
When the mysterious person sensed Ruthanne’s hesitation, they reminded her, “Ruthanne, you have no other choice. Don’t forget that I have your family with me.”
As they kept threatening her with her grandmother’s life, Ruthanne could not stand it anymore. “What. goals do you have? I can do these for you, but I want in on the secrets.”
Ruthanne’s intense curiosity displeased the mysterious person. “I told you that you won’t get any good from thinking about these matters. You have three months. Whether or not your grandma will be cured within the given time is dependent on the progress of your task.”
With that said, the mysterious person mercilessly ended the call.
Ruthanne was stupefied. Evidently, she was a pawn to them, a pawn they were using to get into their target’s base.
However, Ruthanne could not figure certain things out. If the mysterious person held a grudge against Theodoric, why would they use her?
Why did they want her to marry Theodoric, and why were they forcing her to get into Theodoric’s good books?
Meanwhile, in the study, Ballard, who had received his employer’s instructions, wiped the cold sweat off his forehead. “Mr. Lasker, so you want to look into Ruthanne Forrest again?”
“Mm.” The man’s eyes were half–closed.
“But, Mr. Lasker, didn’t we just investigate her yesterday? We found nothing.”
Theodoric tossed Ruthanne’s resume onto the table with a frown. “Start with the clues in this resume. If you still find nothing, maybe it’s time for me to reconsider your worth in the company.”
Clearly frightened, Ballard hastily fled the room with the resume.
Theodoric did good on his threat, so Ballard dared not waste a single second. He quickly contacted various hackers and private investigators to open a case on Ruthanne.
A few hours later, he returned to the study with the results.
When he arrived, the room was shrouded in smoke from the cigar, and Ballard instinctively squinted.
“Mr. Lasker, I have the results!” The information showed that Ruthanne once studied at Jadeborough

Furthermore, she was indeed an orphan. The entire time, she had been living with her elderly paternal grandmother in the village.
Theodoric’s eyes snapped open, revealing a stern and piercing gaze.
Ruthanne’s been living with her grandmother in a village since young? Is this really a coincidence?
Fifteen years ago, his family had driven him and his mother to the countryside of Jadeborough.
At his most desperate times, the girl who had given him bread had been living in an old house in a small fishing village.
It was not that he didn’t look into that old house over the years, but that the results of the investigation devastated him.
Just as he was about to uncover the truth, the old house was caught in a fire. By the time he arrived, the house had been burned down.
After that, he could not find any more news of the girl and her grandmother.
Theodoric did not know if the two had survived the fire, and he regretted having not asked for the girl’s real name back then.
Even though Silvius had told him again and again that no one could survive that fire–that even if they did, they would be left disfigured–Theodoric still believed that she was alive somewhere in the world.
No matter if she was ugly or pretty, no matter if she was disfigured by the fire or not, as long as she was alive, he wanted her as his wife.
However, when Marianne finally appeared, he hesitated.
He could not smell the scent of that night, and he could not feel that same friendly feeling she had given off fifteen years ago.
Frustrated, Theodoric extinguished his cigar and picked up the perfume, Aurora, he had brought back from the office and breathed in its scent.
As his eyes narrowed, a more pressing question popped into his head.
If that girl has been living with her grandmother, why hasn’t Marianne mentioned the existence of her grandmother?
